I needed some text to drop in here, I just happened to have a forum open that I contribute to from time to time .
It was in response to someone's turn the other cheek statement, and asking how I would be making everyone's life better.
I stated: I gave up on wanting to make life better for everyone a long time ago, due to the lack of progress. I am now more concerned with survival, preferably with self-respect intact. I have followed your strategy and do so still, mostly, but now I am more inclined to get even before I forgive.
